I just subscribed for the first time to The Economist! I’ve always read the magazine, but always had a professor’s copy, or was spending so much time in the B-school lounge that had copies, or otherwise worked somewhere that had semi-mandatory access for interns. It seems I’ll be a student forever, but this is my first decisive step towards incorporating my student status into my daily routine, rather than leaving it to school to teach!
The best thing I’ve learned in law school — which perhaps I should have learned years ago, but better late than never — is that Romance languages are correct in making “learn” a reflexive verb. Yes, it’s possible to “teach” somebody, i.e., to suggest to them what they should consider. I was a lazy student in college, waiting to “be taught.” It took me awhile, but I love that when I got here I was for the first time really inspired by my life, and engaged as though for the first time.
